Bombardier Signs Contracts for Bangkok’s Pink and Yellow Monorail Lines
On 14 August 2017 Bombardier Transportation announced the signing of two contracts for its INNOVIA Monorail 300 system, for two new mass rapid transit lines in Bangkok, Thailand.
Bombardier will design and supply the mechanical and electrical elements for the two monorail lines and deliver a combined total of 72, four-car INNOVIA Monorail 300 trains equipped with CITYFLO 650 automatic train control technology for driverless operation.
The contracts were signed with:
1-Northern Bangkok Monorail Company (NBM) for the new 34.5 km long Khae Rai – Min Buri Pink Line, for 42 trainsets
2-Eastern Bangkok Monorail Company (EBM), for the new 30.4 km long Lat Phrao – Samrong Yellow Line, for 30 trainsets
Both contracts include project management, systems engineering and integration, testing and commissioning for the new trains and systems.
The monorail systems will run at speeds up to 80 km/h with a maximum capacity of over 28,000 passengers per hour, per direction.
The trainsets will be manufactured at the Bombardier Joint Venture Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems (PBTS) in China.
Contracts were signed by Thailand’s Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) in June 2017 for the construction of Bangkok’s Pink Line and Yellow Line monorail systems.
A 2.8 km extension of the Pink Line and a 2.6 km extension of the Yellow Line are already in the pipeline.
Bangkok, the capital and most populous city of Thailand, is expected to become one of the world’s mega-cities with a population surpassing 11 million.
